Dental implant
The first 24–48 hours
This is the most sensitive stage: protect the area and help it heal well at the start.
- Apply a cold compress on and off to reduce the swelling.
- Do not rinse vigorously or spit hard: it can dislodge the blood clot.
- Avoid straws: the suction can also dislodge the clot from the wound.
- Eat soft food that is cold or lukewarm: nothing hard, crunchy or very hot.
Smoking and alcohol
- Avoid them completely while the area heals: they delay the integration of the implant and increase the risk of complications.
Hygiene and maintenance
- Soft toothbrush and floss or an interdental brush: clean carefully around the area. Use the interdental brush only once the gum has healed.
- Regular check-ups: they are key to monitoring the integration of the implant in the long term.
When to call us
- If you have persistent bleeding, increasing pain, a fever or more swelling than expected.
- If you have any questions, get in touch with us before your next check-up.
