Filling
General information. Always follow your dentist's instructions.
While the anaesthetic lasts
- Wait for the anaesthetic to wear off, about 2 or 3 hours, before eating.
- Be careful not to bite your tongue, lip or cheek.
Eating
- Resin (white) fillings can be used straight away, once the anaesthetic has worn off.
- For the first 24 hours, avoid very hard or sticky foods on that side.
Sensitivity
- It is normal for the tooth to feel a little sensitive to cold, heat or biting for a few days.
- If, when you close your mouth, you feel the filling "touches" before your other teeth, call us so we can adjust it.
Hygiene
- Brush and floss as normal.
When to call us
- If the tooth hurts on its own, without cold or heat.
- If the sensitivity has not improved after 2 weeks.
- If you notice that part of the filling has broken or fallen out.
- If you find it hard to swallow or breathe, or the swelling is spreading quickly, go to A&E or call 112.
